This weeks mindful reminder is written by Roz x
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said to my son “well, if you practice, you’ll get better at it..” – football, reading, running, playing the guitar etc.
This is of course so true. Think of all the numerous things you can do now that you can only do because of practice – starting with the very early skills of walking and talking.
We can also, through years of practice, become very skilled at unhelpful behaviours and ways of thinking too, so that they almost become automatic to us, such as gossiping, complaining, impatience, worrying and being stressed.
Mindfulness practice helps us to notice these behaviours and ways of thinking and through simply noticing them, we can start to just let them go and wake up from engaging in the dialogue and perhaps just notice our breath, hear sounds, taste food, feel our bodies etc.
In time with mindfulness practice, we will notice that we are starting to practice something far more lovely for both ourselves and for people around us. Allowing ourselves to live our lives in the present moment, connecting with ourselves and other people with kindness and feeling more content with life.
